Easy Study Visa through SDS

Students are required to apply for a study permit before coming to Germany, and must have been accepted at a college or university, in Germany before applying. Here, the SDS (Study Direct Stream) program is of utmost help to international students. SDS is a project designed and implemented in partnership between the German citizen Visa department and the Association of German citizen Community Colleges (ACCC). Want to Study Bachelor’s in Germany?

In India, students can start bachelor’s study after their 12th standard. But in Germany, as per their education regulations students can start their bachelor’s study only after completing 13 years of education.So, for Indian students, they have to complete one year extra before joining bachelor’s program in Germany. So, if students have completed the 12th standard only, they need to complete 13th year as well.

To complete this 13th year, they have basically two options.

Option 1 (13th Year in India)

Complete First 2 Semesters of your Bachelor’s Study in any Indian university.

  • Requirement: 2 semester results from any recognized Indian University, IELTS Certificate Minimum 5.5 Band, 12th result.
  • If you complete two semesters from any recognized Indian university, then you do not need to study Studienkolleg (Foundation year) in Students with these two semester results are eligible for Direct Admission to bachelor courses in Germany. And because these courses are being offered in English, student has to prove only English language proficiency via IELTS 5.5 Band. In this option students do not need to learn German language for admission in most of the Universities (in some universities German A2 is required) and getting Visa, though it is strongly recommended to learn German up to B1 level for daily life conversations in Germany.
  • Requirement: 2 semester results from any recognized Indian University, German Proficiency Certificate and 12th
  • If you complete two semesters from any recognized Indian university, then you do not need to study Studienkolleg (Foundation year) in Germany. Option 2 (Studienkolleg or Foundation Year in Germany)

Complete your 12th Standard in India.

  • Requirement: 12th result and IELTS Certificate Minimum 5 Band required to get enrolled in Studienkolleg (Foundation Year).
  • So, if student wants to study a foundation year in English language, then most of the Studienkolleg foundation year courses are paid, fees will be around 8 to 9 lakhs and students need minimum 5.5 bands in IELTS to get admission in English In this option Students will get two admits, one admit for Studienkolleg (Foundation Year) and One admit for bachelor course, after getting both of these admits, we will apply for the Visa. There is a Fees only for Studienkolleg (Foundation Year), Bachelor studies will be in Public University for Free.
  • Requirement: 12th result and German Proficiency
  • For Studienkolleg in German language Students have to complete A1, A2 and B1 German language examination in India. If student wants to study Studienkolleg for free in Public universities, then they have to clear Aufnahmeprüfung (Entrance Examination). After successfully passing this examination, student can start studying 13th year as Studienkolleg in Germany for
  • If student is failed in Aufnahmeprüfung (Entrance Examination) then they have to choose private Studienkolleg to get enrolled in foundation year, the course fees will be around 5 lakhs. However, the fees may vary depending on the college and location. In most of the private Studienkolleg colleges, there is no Aufnahmeprüfung (Entrance Examination). You can directly start your 13th Year after paying their Fees.
  • Feststellungsprüfung (FSP) examination is the final examination of the 13th Year (Studienkolleg or Foundation Year) and this result will help students to get admitted to bachelor courses in public universities in German

Option 3 (For those Who have Cracked JEE Mains and JEE Advance)

  • Complete your 12th Standard in India and JEE Examinations.
  • If student has cracked JEE Mains and JEE Advance Examinations in India, he/she does not need to complete 13th year at They are eligible for direct admit for Bachelor courses to all universities in Germany.

A Complete Guide for Studying Master’s in Germany
